Top 10 websites for researching family-friendly working

The benefits of researching job recruitment websites when returning to work

Thinking about looking for work after a career break can be scary. Not just because it means putting yourself out there, but also the realisation that it means finding a job that fits in with your current work-life-family values. And this likely means a family-friendly role will be what you’re after; either part-time, hybrid, home-based or flexible hours.

Rest assured there ARE jobs out there that will tick all your boxes and one way to quell any worry is by doing a bit of research.

How to scope out the family-friendly job market

To avoid the falling into a rabbit hole type of research, you need to start with one focus. So decide if you're going to be looking at salary, location or job titles for example and stick to that focus.

Which websites to research and how

From helping mums like you over the past 3 years, I’ve got to know which are the best recruitment sites for family-friendly working so I’ve put together my top ten to save you trawling the internet. You can get your eyes on the list here.

Spend 5 minutes on each website (set a timer) with the aim of discovering what’s out there and NOT trying to shoe-horn your past experience into a job spec and then feel overwhelmed.

Tip: Connect with and follow the recruitment companies you resonate with on LinkedIn, so you can stay in the loop without having to constantly visit different websites.

What to do with the research results

When you're further into your return to work journey and have gained a little clarity about what you might be looking for, you can then reach out to some of the companies to have an informal chat with a recruiter. I advise treating these conversations as part of a research project. You're dipping your toe in the water to get a feel for what it's like putting yourself back out there without commiting to anything.
